Ernest Vella

Ernest Vella has had two passions since childhood: digging up the soil in the Aħrax tal-Mellieħa fields, and dreaming. The digging led him to graduate Masters in Archaeology where he studied the girna in the Maltese rural landscape. The dreams grew with him and drove him to painting and writing. At the turn of the century he had poems published in an anthology by Għaqda Poeti Maltin and Għaqda Letterarja. He also wrote playscripts for secondary school students. Ernest wrote various studies on Mellieħa archaeologija, and co-authored the book L-Arkeoloġija ta’ Malta as part of the Kullana Kulturali. He’s the first Maltese teacher to teach Archaeology in a secondary school, and in fact teaches Applied Archaeology – as well as Art – at Savio College.
