Claudia Gauci was about 11-years old when her father took a photo of her with her sisters coming down the steps of the Gozo ferry. Her sisters are laughing and smiling into the camera; she is looking down, nose stuck in a book. How did she not tumble down those stairs is a miracle. Many years later, a Sixth Form teacher encouraged her to start writing. She took his advice and still hasn’t stopped scribbling and writing verse. She placed second in the National Book Prize with her first collection of poetry Sekonda qabel tqum (Skarta, 2013).
